Unit One Personal Economic Blog Post
My family often goes to Dairy Queen to celebrate something that has happened recently, whether it be a great score on a hard test or getting hired for a part time job. When I buy an ice cream cone from Dairy Queen, the costs go well beyond simply the money I payed for the ice cream. The benefits of going to Dairy Queen include the time I get to spend with my family, the overall enjoyment of the ice cream, positive reinforcement for something I have achieved, and more. The opportunity cost of going to Dairy Queen could be going on a run, studying for an upcoming exam, or even simply spending more time on my homework. The costs of going to Dairy Queen include the gasoline which was used to get us there and back home, the time it took to complete the trip, the fact that ice cream is not very healthy, and plenty more outside of simply the cost in dollars for the ice cream itself. While weighing the costs and benefits of going to Dairy Queen, I typically decide to go since I am in good physical shape, usually have plenty of time to spend, and that our family is doing well enough to afford the gasoline and ice cream.

Intro to Economics
Part
1:
Personally, I do
not know much at all about economics except the basics. I understand supply and
demand curves, incentives, and opportunity costs. I have a loose comprehension
of topics such as compound interest, credit, and financial markets.
Part
2:
I took this
class for quite a few reasons actually. First of all, I wanted to take an AP
class that I think I would be able to grasp. Economics strays away from the
history which I have taken for the last two years. It will be nice to have
something different that I am more comfortable with. Also my parents have
pushed for me to get more involved and take harder classes so that is what I
have done. Lastly, the simple answer which is that it will give me a boost on
my GPA.
Part
3:
1.
In all honesty if there was one
thing in life that I could not live without it would be the internet. I use the
internet every day for much of the day whether it is for listening to music or
communicating with friends via social media.
2.
I do not have a strong preference
toward a company but I especially enjoy Dairy Queen’s ice cream. I guess if I
had to choose a company it would be that. Their ice cream is easier to eat and
I think that it tastes better.
3.
I am most likely going to pursue a
career in engineering whether it be aerospace, automotive, or even
bioengineering. I have always had an interest in stuff like this and the fact
that my father is an engineer and enjoys his work makes it even more appealing
to me.
